PRCA & Rural Media Group To Expand Schedule Of Rodeos

Designers Brew

The PRCA and Rural Media Group are pleased to announce an expanded schedule of PRCA rodeos on The Cowboy Channel, RFD-TV, The PRCA on Cowboy Channel Plus, and The Cowgirl Channel. This expanded schedule will now total more than 900 PRCA performances annually over the three Rural Media Group television networks and the subscription based PRCA on Cowboy Channel Plus App.

“Showcasing our small to medium-sized PRCA rodeos with this national exposure really benefits these local communities,” PRCA CEO Tom Glause said. “Rodeo fans can now watch even more PRCA rodeo action, including local hometown rodeos, the PRCA Playoff Series rodeos, and the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo.”

Of the 900-plus PRCA rodeo performances being televised and livestreamed, 150 PRCA performances will be exclusively televised on The Cowgirl Channel, which launched on March 1.

The mutually agreed upon schedule of PRCA rodeos on the RMG Networks will run through the end of 2028.

“We hope that these local rodeos will now have the added incentive to plan and improve their rodeo production and marketing, and accordingly make every effort to reach their rodeo’s full potential,” said Patrick Gottsch, Founder and President of Rural Media Group. “They should know that the Rural Media Group and the PRCA are here to help them do that.”

The expanded schedule of PRCA rodeos on the Rural Media Group networks begins this weekend with the San Angelo (Texas) Cinch Shootout being telecast live on The Cowboy Channel and on the PRCA on Cowboy Channel Plus App at 8:30 p.m. (ET) on Saturday, April 15.

What is the difference between Cowboy Channel and Cowboy Channel Plus

Cowboy Channel vs Cowboy Channel Plus

The Cowboy Channel and Cowboy Channel Plus are both Western-themed streaming services that offer programming related to rodeo, Western sports, and the cowboy lifestyle. However, there are some key differences between the two services:

  • Content: The Cowboy Channel primarily offers live and recorded rodeo and Western sports events, along with Western lifestyle programming such as cooking shows and documentaries. Cowboy Channel Plus, on the other hand, offers all the content available on The Cowboy Channel, plus additional live and on-demand content such as exclusive rodeo events, behind-the-scenes footage, and interviews with cowboys and cowgirls.
  • Availability: The Cowboy Channel is available as a cable and satellite TV network, as well as a streaming service that can be accessed via web browsers, mobile apps, and some TV streaming devices. Cowboy Channel Plus, on the other hand, is only available as a standalone streaming service that can be accessed via web browsers and mobile apps, and is not available through cable or satellite TV providers.
  • Programming: Both the Cowboy Channel and Cowboy Channel Plus offer a mix of Western lifestyle and rodeo programming, but the Cowboy Channel’s lineup is primarily composed of live rodeo events, including the National Finals Rodeo and the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) World Finals. Cowboy Channel Plus, on the other hand, offers both live and on-demand programming, including original series, documentaries, and other Western lifestyle content.
  • Cost: The Cowboy Channel is typically included as part of a cable or satellite TV subscription, so the cost will vary depending on your provider and package. Cowboy Channel Plus, on the other hand, is a standalone streaming service that costs $9.99 per month or $89.99 per year.

Sioux Falls To Host Cinch Playoffs

The Cinch Playoffs will play a bigger role than ever before in deciding who makes it to the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo with a payout of more than $1 million on the final weekend of the 2023 season.

On Monday afternoon, the PRCA, the State of South Dakota, Experience Sioux Falls and Cinch announced the Cinch Playoffs will have athletes competing for the Governor’s Cup and vying for the more than $1 million purse Sept. 28-30, 2023, at the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls. It will be the richest rodeo in South Dakota history.

Cinch Playoffs

“The event rodeo fans will see in 2023 in September is like the AFC, NFC championship games in football or the pennant race in baseball,” said Rorey Lemmel, the general manager of the Cinch Playoffs in Sioux Falls. “It will change the landscape for who is the world champion.”

The Cinch Playoffs provides one last opportunity for ProRodeo athletes to qualify for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. The contestants will include the top four finishers from each event at the Cinch Playoffs in Puyallup, Wash. earlier in September, and the top eight out of the standings of the Playoff Series presented by Pendleton Whisky.

“Rodeo tradition runs deep in South Dakota, some of our biggest legends in the sport are from South Dakota and some of our oldest rodeos are in South Dakota,” PRCA CEO Tom Glause said. “But we are super excited to bring the biggest rodeo in terms of payout to Sioux Falls in September of 2023.”

South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem is thrilled to have the event in Sioux Falls.

“Freedom and rodeo go hand in hand, and that’s why South Dakota is becoming a destination for major rodeo competition,” Noem said. “I’m excited to celebrate our state sport with the final qualifying competition before the National Finals Rodeo.”

In addition to bareback riding, steer wrestling, team roping, saddle bronc riding, tie-down roping, barrel racing and bull riding, breakaway roping will be held at the Cinch Playoffs.

The 2023 ProRodeo season concludes Sept. 30. The Top 15 athletes in the PRCA | RAM World Standings in each event will qualify for the Wrangler NFR.

The Cinch Playoffs will air on The Cowboy Channel and stream on the PRCA on Cowboy Channel Plus. For more information, visit cowboychannelplus.com.
